Electrical and Electronic Equipment in the Circular Economy Series
Electrical and Electronic Equipment in the Circular Economy Series
This programme series is designed to analyse the different aspects of the Electrical and Electronic Equipment sector’s Transition in the Circular Economy, where presenters from different expertise and background are invited to guide the Members through this journey.
Rapid innovation and constant technology breakthroughs have dramatically increased access to electronic products and digital technology, with many benefits, however this has also led to an increase in the disposal of electronic devices and equipment. Electrical and electronic equipment continues to be one of the fastest growing waste streams globally and with current annual growth rates of 2% in the EU. It is estimated that only less than 40% of all electronic waste is recycled in the EU, making it the fastest-growing waste stream in the world. Value is loss when products are not reparable, the battery cannot be replaced, the software is no longer supported, materials incorporated in devices are not recovered, etc. In addition, electronic and electrical equipment contains valuable and rare materials, often found in small quantities in each device.
This series is designed to showcase how, by transition to a circular economy, opportunities to harvest the valuable resource and capture the value losses will emerge and aims to introduce you to a new vision of producing and using electronic and electrical goods by embedding circular design and developing new circular business models.
